Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was founded in 1995, but its beginnings go back as far as 1959. This very year the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Textile Technology of the College of Engineering and Technology opened their doors to students. The Textile Technology Department joined the Mechanical Engineering Department ten years later and has remained its constituent part ever since. In 1973, the College of Engineering and Technology evolved into the Institution of higher education, and its strongest department, i.e. the Department of Mechanical Engineering, started enrollment in four-year courses of study. This department was also the first one to introduce postgraduate courses of study and began conferring M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in 1976. In 1975 the Institution of Higher Education became a member of the newly founded University in Maribor and ten years later evolved into the Faculty of Technical Sciences. From this date onwards the Department of Mechanical Engineering was one of the four departments of the Faculty of Technical Sciences, but it actually functioned as an independent whole offering courses in Mechanical and Textile Engineering. From 1995 onwards the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has been pursuing its work as an already established institution of higher education with intensive R&D activities, well linked with related institutions in the country and abroad.
